The scene begins with a slow, dreamy drift: the camera floats over a field of daisies in the moonlight, autumn leaves swirl in the air, and a melancholy accordion can be heard in the distance. Suddenly, with a sharp jolt, the idyllic scene cracks and disintegrates like broken glass, revealing the harsh, scorched earth of war. The camera shifts to a rapid tracking shot across the trenches, following the gaze of a poet who attempts to write on a piece of paper, but the ink turns to mud and the words to smoke. The visuals shift between two worlds: a warm, soft-focused memory of the "stable" (a cozy but cramped interior with an icon in the red corner) and the cold, hyperrealistic reality of the "off-road"—an endless, muddy road in the fog, along which a crowd of faceless people moves with their heads bowed. The final shot is an extreme close-up of a closed eye, a memorial candle burning in the reflection of the pupil, while quiet, mad laughter echoes off-screen.
