Once, an old man had a kind daughter named Zumrad, while his second wife had a lazy, mean daughter named Kimmat. ​The stepmother hated Zumrad and forced her father to abandon her in the forest. There, Zumrad found a small house belonging to an old Pari (fairy). Zumrad worked hard, cleaned the house, and was respectful. As a reward, the Pari gave her a white chest filled with gold and jewels. ​Jealous, the stepmother sent Kimmat to the forest to get the same riches. However, Kimmat was rude, lazy, and refused to work. The Pari gave her a red chest. When Kimmat and her mother opened it at home, snakes and fire burst out, punishing them for their greed and cruelty. ​Zumrad lived happily ever after with her father.
