10. Over the course of a lifetime, a person produces enough saliva to fill two swimming pools. On average, our salivary glands produce between 0.5 and 1.5 liters of saliva per day. If we take this average (about 1 liter per day) and multiply it by a lifespan (~70 years), we get approximately 25,550 liters. This volume is enough to fill two standard Olympic-sized swimming pools (one such pool holds 2,500 cubic meters, but if you include regular garden pools, the figure works!). Saliva is vital: it promotes digestion, protects teeth, and disinfects the mouth. thats all in cartoon style.
